Another disaster: Boko-Haram Kill 52 In Borno & Burnt 300 Houses

Over 50 gunmen, yesterday, invaded Kawuri District of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno state and set ablaze over 300 residential houses, after killing a soldier, 51 civilians and wounded several policemen.

Residents who sustained injuries during the attack are now receiving treatment at the Konduga General Hospital and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Kawuri District is one of the big towns in Konduga,on Maiduguri-Bama Expressway, which is about 60 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

UNILAG Engineering Student Goes Mad After Reading So Much

An undergraduate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka campus, has been reported to have lost sanity having been engaged in a marathon reading session since resumption of academic activities.

The male student from the Faculty of Engineering, whose name could not be ascertained, was alleged to have lost sanity at about three in the early hours of Tuesday while studying for the second semester examination.

According to a source at the 51-year old institution, the student was reported to be studying overnight at the Akintunde Ojo 24-hours library of the university when he suddenly became irrational in his behaviour and was quickly rushed to the clinic for medical attention.

United States Condemns Nigeria's Same-sex Marriage Ban

The US on Monday criticized Nigeria for approving a law that punishes same-sex marriage with prison, saying the move would curtail basic human rights.

Secretary of State John Kerry said the US was “deeply concerned” by Nigeria’s new law which “dangerously restricts freedom of assembly, association and expression for all Nigerians.”

Obasanjo withdraws from PDP, Write's letter to party chairman

 President Olusegun Obasanjo has fired another letter, this time, to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, in which he gave a notice of his withdrawal from the activities of the party.

Obasanjo also sent a copy of the letter to President Goodluck Jonathan as National Leader of the party. A copy of the letter was obtained by the Saturday Tribune.

The former president, in the letter, said he was withdrawing from all activities of the party because the PDP had been negating the principles of morality, decency and discipline in its decisions, especially as they affect the South West where he comes from.

Aviation Minister Stella Odua's Master's degree which she claimed to have obtained from St. Paul’s College Lawrenceville, Virginia, US and presented to the Senate in 2011 as a ministerial nominee, is fake, because the school does not offer graduate programs.

Strike Continues As Poly Lecturers And FG Meeting Ends In Stalemate

Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) are to continue the ongoing nationwide strike, as the Monday meeting between polytechnic lecturers and the Federal Government ended in a deadlock.

ASUP embarked on strike from April 29, July 17, 2013 in the first instance, and resumed the industrial action in early October, 2013. The lecturers demand better working conditions, infrastructure improvement, and ending the discrimination of polytechnic graduates, among other things.

The National Publicity Secretary of ASUP, Clement Chirman, confirmed the deadlock, adding that the Federal Government’s delegation was led to the Abuja meeting by the Minister of Labour, Chukwuemeka Wogu.

Dailymail reports, states that a jealous university student threw sulphuric acid over her friend in an attack inspired by the horrific assault on Katie Piper, a court today heard.

Mary Konye, 21, disguised herself in an Islamic veil showing only her eyes, and followed Naomi Oni home in East London before allegedly dousing her in the corrosive acid. Ms Oni, 21, who worked at Victoria’s Secret lingerie shop, suffered horrific burns on her face and chest, lost her hair and eyelashes and was left scarred for life in the alleged attack on December 30 2012.
